  Infection Control

-------------------------------------------------------

back

  Infection Control

Infection controls and universal precautions were used to protect our patients and staffs. Everyone benefits from rigorous infection control — you, your dentists, and our dental team. Please feel free to discuss this topic with your dentist at Nana Dental Clinic and receive a straightforward answer.

Dentists at Plaza Dental Group and our entire team follow procedures recommended by several federal agencies: American Dental Association (ADA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). These measures include:

              Disinfectant hand soap
             o  Gloves and face masks
o  Chemical disinfection of any surfaces
             o  Sterilization of all equipment
             o  Disposable materials

We sterilize all reusable equipment, including dental handpieces. We use an autoclave, a device that kills bacteria and viruses by steam, heat and pressure.

  Initial Consultation

Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation explaining your diagnosis and treatment options. Occasionally, treatments can be done the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan will require an evaluation and a second appointment to provide treatment on another day.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

o  Your referral slip and any X-rays if applicable
o  A list of medications you are presently taking
o  If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms.              o  This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.

Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are on any medication (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, etc.)

  Dental veneers

A veneer is a thin layer of restorative material placed over a tooth surface, either to improve the aesthetics of a tooth, or to protect a damaged tooth surface.

There are two types of material used in a veneer, composite resin and porcelain. A composite veneer may be directly placed (built-up in the mouth), or indirectly fabricated by a dental technician in a dental laboratory, and later bonded to the tooth, typically using a resin cement. In contrast, a porcelain veneer may only be indirectly fabricated in the laboratory.

Regardless of what causes unattractive teeth, dental veneers may solve most of your cosmetic dental issues, including:

                 o  Stained or discolored
             o  Worn or misshapen teeth
             o  Chipped or broken teeth
             o  Misaligned or noticeable gap
             o  Alternative to orthodontic treatment

Because dental veneers are so thin, they might require little-to-no tooth reshaping when bonded onto the tooth. Once veneers are bonded into place, they are relatively strong; however, care must be taken so as not to abuse veneers because the thin porcelain shells can damage or break. We may advise you against certain uses or dietary tendencies (such as eating carrots), avoid clenching and grinding your teeth and may recommend you wear a protective appliance while your sleep, especially if you are a bruxer.

 Dental implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root replacement and is used in prosthetic dentistry to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth.

Implants offer a permanent solution to tooth loss. Additionally, implants may be used in conjunction with other restorative procedures for maximum effectiveness. For example, a single implant can serve to support a crown replacing a single missing tooth. It can also be used to support a dental bridge for the replacement of multiple missing teeth, and can be used with dentures to increase retention and stability.

The implants replace the missing teeth without having to prepare the adjacent teeth as you would when fabricating a bridge. Since they are biomechanically stable and strong, the patient is immediately able to masticate (chew) normally.

There are many different types of dental implants available including
             o  Nobel-Biocare Implant
             o  Straumann ITI®
             o  OsseoSpeed™ (Astra Tech)
             o  NobelGuide Teeth-in-an-Hour™
o  Ask about implant restorative treatment at a time of consultation.

 Tooth Whitening

Over time, our teeth do gradually become darker or yellowish due to aging, drinking coffee and tea, alcoholic beverage, or smoking. With today’s technology, your teeth can easily be whitened with a safe, fast, and effective way. At Nana Dental Clinic, we have both cold-light and genuine laser whitening machines which is accredited by FDA and CE. In one hour, you will have a new bright dazzling smile without any pain.

          Steps for laser tooth whitening:
o  1.Evaluate shade of teeth prior to be whitened.
o  2.Isolate the teeth which will be whitened.
o  3.Place eye protection to both dentist and patient.
o  4.Apply whitening gel and place the laser over to activate the gel.
o  5.Remove whitening gel and clean the teeth
o  6.Re-evaluate the shade of teeth after the treatment is completed to see the difference.

 Dental Crown and Bridge

Dental crown is a restoration to cap or cover over a tooth that has been broken, endodontically treated, misshaped, etc. Normally it takes 2-3 dental visits (3-7 days) to make a crown.

Dental bridge is a kind of fixed partial denture used to replace missing teeth. A dental bridge is fabricated by reducing the teeth on either side of the missing tooth or teeth by a preparation pattern. Then, the false teeth are fused in between two crowns which used for anchor. It normally takes about the same duration to make a dental bridge.

With today’s technology, dental crowns can give you a natural-looking smile that will last for years. At Nana Dental Clinic, many kinds of dental crown and bridge are available including :
             o  Full gold crown
             o  Metal-free:
                 -  IPS Empress
                 -  In-ceram YZ
                 -  Cercon
                 -  Procera
             o  Porcelain fused to metal:
                 -  87% gold alloy
                 -  54% gold alloy
                 -  2% gold alloy
                 -  non-precious alloy.

Bridge makes your smile look healthy and natural.
